Time-consistent policies
In many cases the optimal open-loop policy to influence agents who solve dynamic problems is time-inconsistent. We show how to construct a time-consistent open-loop policy rule. We also consider an additional restriction under which the time-consistent openloop policy is stationary. We use examples to illustrate the properties of these tax rules.
متن کاملTime consistent fiscal policies in a Ramsey economy
This paper revisits a well-known case of optimal fiscal policy in a Ramsey model where consumer utility is defined over consumption and public goods. We show that normalising the size of the population to one eliminates the scope for active policy-making since the decentralised equilibrium coincides with social planning. Then, we modify the model to allow for a population of N > 1 agents, where...
متن کاملTime-consistent investment policies in Markovian markets: A case of mean¬タモvariance analysis ¬リニ
The optimal investment policy for a standard multi-period mean–variance model is not time-consistent because the variance operator is not separable in the sense of the dynamic programming principle. With a nested conditional expectation mapping, we develop an investment model with time consistency in Markovian markets. Furthermore, we examine the differences of the investment policies with a ri...
متن کاملWage Rigidity or Fiscal Redistribution? The Unemployment Bias of Time Consistent Redistributive Policies
Wage Rigidity or Fiscal Redistribution? The Unemployment Bias of Time Consistent Redistributive Policies Because of Time Inconsistency considerations, policymakers underestimate the drawbacks of wage rigidity as a redistributive tool. Consequently, they redistribute inefficiently income from high to low skilled workers. They typically implement too much wage rigidity whereas other means (in par...
متن کاملOptimal time-consistent investment and reinsurance policies for mean-variance insurers
This paper investigates the optimal time-consistent policies of an investment-reinsurance problem and an investment-only problem under the mean-variance criterion for an insurer whose surplus process is approximated by a Brownianmotionwith drift. The financial market considered by the insurer consists of one risk-free asset and multiple risky assets whose price processes follow geometric Browni...
